Meet Dylan Stone

Welcome to the Day 11 of The Belgrave Legacy Blog Series. The series spans from September 20, 2016 to November 1, 2016. Each week, there will be a theme with 2 blog posts (Tuesday and Thursday).

This week’s theme is Secondary Characters. We delved deeper into Fawn’s best friend Ivy from The Belgrave Legacy in Tuesday’s post.

Here are the past posts, in case you missed any of them: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, Day 9, Day 10.

Dylan Stone probably has one of the smallest amount of screen time of all the characters with backstories in this story. Initially, he was supposed to have even less, but an early reader pointed out how strange it was to have someone walk on with an implied past with Fawn, then walk off so quickly. I took that note and made the revision, and I’m glad I did. He now appears earlier in the story (in Part 2) before his initial debut in Part 3.

Unlike Ivy, I Dylan came to me, named and as a werewolf from the start. I don’t watch Teen Wolf, and everyone knows Jacob Black from the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, but my inspiration for making him a werewolf was the protective nature of his relationship with Fawn in the story. And for inspiration, I drew from the appearance of Jacob, and the steadfastness of Luke Garroway from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

I do wish I could have worked more of his life in New Orleans into the story, but as one of the more minor secondary characters, I couldn’t sacrifice the space. However, I am considering the idea of writing a short story about him that I hope will give readers more of a sense as to why Fawn dated him, and how they remained friends afterwards.
